PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

PROLOGUE: THE DRAWING ROOM

It is Christmas Eve, and snow falls softly outside. In preparation for the holiday party, maids fill the room with beautiful flowers and gifts. Friends and family arrive, delighted to see one another and to be together. Children dance around the Christmas tree, excited about their gifts and all the holiday sweets they are about to enjoy. Suddenly a mysterious guest enters.The children are a little bit frightened and very curious. But when his face is revealed, they are delighted to see Herr Drosselmeyer, Clara and Fritz’s uncle. Magical things always happen when he comes to visit. He brings three surprises for the children and a beautiful Nutcracker. Later that night, Clara tiptoes into the drawing room to visit her Nutcracker and falls asleep under the Christmas tree. As the clock strikes midnight, she has a fantastic dream. The Nutcracker and his soldiers engage in a fierce battle with the Rat King and his mice. Then, Clara dreams that the Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince. He takes her on an enchanted journey to the land of sweets.
