It's easy to forget that barely a century ago most of our neighborhoods—heck, even Hollywood Boulevard—were farmland. We still don't have to drive very far to find farms where kids can go strawberry picking, apple picking, blueberry picking, and even cherry picking.

When the holidays roll around, we can take the kids to local farms to find pumpkins in the pumpkin patch and even chop down their own Christmas trees. And we haven't even mentioned all the petting zoos and animal farms, where kids can have animal encounters!
