Sign Up for AMNH Summer Camps Before They're History
While registration for the American Museum of Natural History's summer camps hasn't started yet, it's a good idea to keep a look out. In 2007, the camps sold out before they were even made available online.

AMNH camp: Beware moms. Camp
AMNH camp: Beware moms. Camp is extremely expensive and if your child has anything but a stellar day, camp KICKS THEM OUT, while using the annoying language of "we have to reconsider his attendence at the program." My child has been to many camps in NYC, ranging from the most structured and elite of summer camps to the free-for-all of an ACT or Oasis program. We've never had an issue. He has gone to sleep away camp--again no problems. But the AMNH teacher he got was strict and intimidating even to Mom here. When I explained that he "does better" if he knows what he is going to do for the day, she said, "I can't do that. This isn't that kind of program." Really? You can't tell a child in advance wht to expect for the day? And she rarely smiled. Not surprisingly, my child didn't do well in her program--and rather than someone telling the teacher that, you know, we paid $450 for the week of camp and maybe they could do something a wee bit different, no. They kick out the child. Be ware! No, my child wasn't kicked out for hitting another child or being aggressive. He was kicked out for crying--after the teacher called him a "tattle tale" Nice teacher! Boy, is she able to handle people. Again, the teacher was someone who found it very difficutl to be accommading or warm. She was a tough lady even to mom. Not a smile. I had planned to pay this kind of moneyfor an elite program so that my child could have an easy week while I had an extremely demanding work week. We had one of the more stressful weeks ever. Beware parents! AMNH camp is expensive and not accommodating.
Did you say anything to the
Did you say anything to the camp administrators? Sometimes there are bad teachers at any program, I'm sure the AMNH would want to know about your experience.
