Last Minute Summer Camp Openings

You've all heard the hype: in NYC you have to sign your kid up for summer camp st the beginning of the year or you'll never get a spot. Well, honestly, for some camps that really is true. Popular, small programs like the Museum of Natural History Summer Camps or Fieldston Day Camp almost completely fill up from returning campers and members who get first priority, so to get a spot at these types of camps you have to really be on the ball. But, if you haven't given a thought to your summer plans there's no need to panic.

There are many, many camps that still have spots. Larger camps like 92nd St Y, Chelsea Piers and Oasis can most likely make a spot for a kid up until the last minute. And, many of the specialized weekly camps will have a week here or there that won't fill up. A little leg work can find a child a spot at a great camp even this late in the year.

But, we figured if you've been too busy to sign your child up for camp by now, the last thing you needed was to spend your time calling around to camps looking for a summer program that had room for your child now. So, we've done the leg-work for you. We've called around and found over 20 great camps that have spots and listed the ages and sessions available at each of them.

NYC Day Camps

Kids Empowerment Academy - spots still available in fun kid power confidence camps for ages K-8th grade

TADA! - Create and perform a mini-musical in five days!  Spots available at different times during the summer for Grades grades 1-8 and the teen program.

The Art Farm: Has space available for the 6-8 year old group for summer camp.

Super Soccer Stars: Indoor 5-Day Mini Camps 5-day Mini Camps feature 2.5 hours of daily soccer with an arts and music Kick! Mini Camps offered in UES, UWS, Downtown and Brooklyn locations each week throughout the summer season from June 16th - August 28th. For ages 2.5 - 3 yr olds and older 4-5 yr olds. Super Soccer Stars also offer flexible drop -in classes 7 days a week at UES, UWS, Downtown, Hoboken, Brooklyn, and Hamptons locations. For ages 2 and up.

NY Kids Club: 2008 Summer Olympics Themed Camps. Availability for Ages 2-6. Flexible 2,3 or 5 day options. 2 Week minimum

74th St. Magic Summer Days Camp: There are a few spots still available in 2.5- 6yrs age group. It is a minimum of 2 week sign up.

Chelsea Piers: At the moment spaces are available in all weeks of summer camps, but sign up your children before June 2nd to receive discounted pricing

Manhattan Fencing: Has available slots for day camps weeks of July 14-18, July 21-25, and August 25-29. These are all day camps from 10am-3pm!

Suburban Day Camps

JCC at Pearl River: 5-10 year olds

92nd Street Y Camp Programs: Camp Yomi (5-9 yrs old), Camp Haverim (10-11 yrs), Trailblazers (12-14 yrs), Camp Tevah for Science/Nature (8-11 yrs), Camp Yaffa Arts Camp (8-11 yrs), and our one and two week sleepaway and specialty day camps (baseball, soccer, basketball, film)

Blue Rill Day Camp openings for ages 3 -14 from NYC (transportation from Upper East and Upper West sides of Manhattan) - - Program update: they have added a golf program

Corbin's Crusaders Day Camp Sports and adventure camp. Children can enroll for 3-day, 4-day or weeks at a time from June 16th ??“ August 15th. Spots available for all ages.

Deer Mountain Day Camp openings in most of the age groups.

Sleep-Away Camps

French Woods Performing Arts Camp: 7th and 8th grade boys for most of the summer and Session 1 (June 29-July 11) and Session 4 (August 10-22) for girls

Camp North Star: Limited space for Session A (June 28 - July 21), Spots available for Session B (July 24 - Aug 16) and they are now offering last minute discounts for first time families. Also, for kids aged 2nd through 5th grade there is still space for the July 24 -Aug 7 session.
