Me

I've been fascinated to learn how the brain's executive function challenges many kids in school and at home.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one.

The LIttle Kid

A wonderful story with great illustrations and an environmental message that's not preachy or scary.

Kickboard USA Giving Away Micro Kick Scooters and G Bikes to NYC Schools!

Feb 26 2009

By mommy

maxikickscooter.gifKick scooters are great for New York City kids. We do a lot of walking, which can be hard on little legs and wearisome. I have one of those little guys who would whine with every step and I'd find myself dragging him down the street having to laugh off all the people that were giving me those bad mom glares (oh if they only knew). Got him a scooter and viola, now I can barely keep up with him.

But finding the right scooter took a while. At three we got him a three wheel toddler scooter that didn't work very well and at four, while he was too big for that, he still couldn't handle a two wheeled scooter. Then we discovered the Micro Mini Kick and the new Micro Maxi Kick Scooters.

Read on to find out how you could win a new Micro Maxi Scooter or get one for your school fundraising auction or raffle.

200902261247.jpgThe Micro Mini Scooter is a pricey little number, running you around $75, but this scooter is worth the investment. It's a three wheel scooter, giving kids more stability, but it rides like a two wheeler. Actually it rides better than a two wheeler. The unique system of the Micro Mini makes it glide and carve in a wonderful way. No more face plants or scary hairpin turns. It also looks cool, so if you have a kid who needs that extra year on three wheels, he or she is not going to be embarrassed on a Micro Mini.

The only downside with our Micro Mini is that it doesn't fold and it's only good for up to five year olds. So I was very excited to see that Micro has come out with a new scooter, the Maxi!

The new Maxi Kick is a Swiss designed beauty based on the the mini, but scaled up and reinforced for bigger kids. It's recommended for 6 and up, but my five year old loves his new one. According to him it's "Awesome. Perfect." (That's a pretty good rating from someone who regularly rates everything awesome "Good. Fine.")

The Maxi comes with a joystick-like handle, allowing kids to get the feel of a skateboard ride with a little extra support balancing. You can also buy a regular T-Bar handle which allows you to continue riding it like a scooter and is better for smaller kids.

200902261248.jpg

The handles click on and off easily, adding the additional benefit of compact-ability to this newer model.

OK I think you get that I love these scooters. Even at $140, although tough to swallow, I still think this is worth it for years of good use. But I also love this company. They have the greatest customer service, which I got to experience when we had a problem with our Micro Mini, but they are also doing something great for New York City Schools and Mommy Poppins readers.

Kickboard USA, the company that makes the Micro Mini and Maxi scooters is not only offering a scooter for two lucky Mommy Poppins readers, but they are offering to donate two new Maxi scooters (one purple and one black) a Mini, Maxi or G Bike (sorry. i misremembered the offer) to the school fundraisers of each of the first 50 NYC Public or Private Schools that respond to this post. Wow!

Be a hero and snag these for your school fundraiser. They will be hot items!

To enter to win a scooter for your child: Leave a comment on this post by Monday, March 2 at Midnight.

To get a scooters for your school fundraiser:

Click here to send an email to julie@kickboardusa.com with the following information:

- school’s name, age, gender (if applicable) AND, most importantly, website address

- preferred donation: Mini Scooter, Maxi Scooter or G Bike

- date of the fundraiser or if ongoing, the date range

- REQUIRED: a donation form or letter of acknowledgement must be received before scooters will be shipped

All scooters will be shipped directly to the school. Please honor the spirit of this generous offer.

You can also buy a Micro Mini or Maxi at local stores (Boomerang in Tribeca and Flying Squirrel in Williamsburg have them) on Amazon or directly from kickboardUSA.

Submitted by JC on February 26, 2009 - 6:37pm.

I got my son the Micro flex and he hasn't been quite ready for it (he's still 4, almost 5). This would be a wonderful trainer until he's ready for the big guy one - although I'm enjoying riding that one until he's ready.

Thanks!

My two little ones could definitely use this, they're so over the stroller and just want to be mobile sometimes when we're out and about. The thing is I know that if i don't carry the stroller they will get tired and irritable some point when we're not done running errands! This will be perfect!

Oh, my son would love this! He is too small for the two-wheeler, but has grown out of the tiny blue one we bought for him. It would be great for walking to new neighborhoods and travelling the Bronx (our lovely home). Thanks so much for the opportunity! We definitely could not afford it otherwise!

My son just got a standard scooter and it's hard for him to adjust his weight to it. It seems that since this scooter has 2 wheel in the front, it does seem to be more stable. I would love my son to have one so that I can feel safer when he use it. Plus it look great so he'll love it.

This scooter is already on my wish list...
I am trying to transition my son out of the stroller, but he gets tired if we have to walk 6-7 blocks to get to the subway. And *I* am tired of taking the bus 3 blocks to help him out. Having a scooter would be the perfect way to make the transition.
