Go Green LES promises to be a free, fun street festival on Orchard Street between Broom and Grand Streets in the middle of what used to be the Delancey Apple Orchard in the mid 1700's. Apple Day will feature a real old-fashioned apple cider press, a live honey beehive, face painting, arts-and-crafts, historical neighborhood walking tours and, of course, apple samples of everything from apples to vegan apple bread to chicken apple sausage to chocolate apple truffles; even apple dog biscuits! Rabbai Stone from the Chabad of the Lower East Side will be present to celebrate the harvest holiday of Sukkot with an apple and honey tent. In between sampling a variety of apple treats, Go Green Lower East Side and the Sierra Club will giveaway for free 500 energy efficient light bulbs, t-shirts, and information on how to "go green". Live entertainment will be on hand paying tribute to the past and present ethnic diversity of the Lower East Side. | ||
