Macy's Fishing Contest Saturday, July 19, 2008 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Join a great Brooklyn tradition: Prospect Park's annual fishing contest! July 16-20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Audubon Center The R.H. Macy’s Fishing Contest has been an annual event in Prospect Park since 1947. A rite of passage for tens of thousands of Brooklyn kids over the years, the contest runs for a week each July and is held lakeside near the Prospect Park Audubon Center at the Boathouse. The event is open to kids 15 years old or under. Equipment is provided free of charge or participants can bring their own. All fishing is done on a catch-and-release basis; fish must be returned to the Lake alive. Registration Contest open to ages 15 and under. All groups of 10 or more must call (718) 287-3400 x114 to register in advance. Individuals can just show up and register - or call (718) 287-3400 x114 for more information. The New Museum Block Party 2008, a day of art activities and performances on Saturday, July 19, 2008, from 12 to 7 p.m. in Sara D. Roosevelt Park! Enjoy a range of artist- and educator-led interactive projects and programs related to the neighborhood and the New Museum as well as a tour of the exhibition “2008 Altoids Award” at the New Museum. Block Party is free and open to the public. Everyone welcome!
Highlights include:
- The New Museum and community organizations lead hands-on workshops exploring local art, architecture, and culture, from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m. - The Bowery Poetry Club Poets perform with Youth Poets and the MayHem Poets, a group writing poetry to the beat of hip- hop at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. - Festivities come to life through a series of live performances by Bindlestiff Family Cirkus and Vangeline Theater at 2:00, 2:45 , 4:30, and 6:15 p.m.

City Parks Foundation and The Joyce Theater present a week of free dance in celebration of the theater's 25th anniversary. The three selected dance pieces range from an improvised solo inspired by parks settings to a duet between man and machine to dance aerobatics performed with a 20-foot vertical pipe.
