Macy's Fishing Contest Thursday, Jul 17, 2008 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Join a great Brooklyn tradition: Prospect Park's annual fishing contest! July 16-20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Audubon Center Brooklyn The R.H. Macy’s Fishing Contest has been an annual event in Prospect Park since 1947. A rite of passage for tens of thousands of Brooklyn kids over the years, the contest runs for a week each July and is held lakeside near the Prospect Park Audubon Center at the Boathouse. The event is open to kids 15 years old or under. Equipment is provided free of charge or participants can bring their own. All fishing is done on a catch-and-release basis; fish must be returned to the Lake alive. Registration Contest open to ages 15 and under. Whitebird returns to the park with a puppet show for kids - by kids. Bring the kids to enjoy an hour-long puppet show about the Brooklyn Bridge performed by kids with puppets made by kids. For over 18 years, White Bird Productions has been producing plays, commissioning new work, collaborating with musicians and choreographers and, through Creative Theatrics, offering children's theater classes in Brooklyn. July 16 – 20, City Parks Foundation and The Joyce Theater present a week of free dance in celebration of the theater's 25th anniversary. The three selected dance pieces range from an improvised solo inspired by parks settings to a duet between man and machine to dance aerobatics performed with a 20-foot vertical pipe.
