What We're Reading

Me
200908230839.jpg

I've been fascinated to learn how the brain's executive function challenges many kids in school and at home.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one.

The LIttle Kid

A wonderful story with great illustrations and an environmental message that's not preachy or scary.

Camp and Summer Program Guide 2008

THIS GUIDE HAS BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE SEE OUR 2009 SUMMER CAMP GUIDE HERE.

Summer camp is a wonderful thing—an opportunity for children to experience different things than they do during their normal school year. At the end of the summer children seem to have grown not just in inches, but as little people too— after a summer exposed to new kids, new challenges and and loads of sunshine.

We've put together this summer camp guide to help parents and their children find the best and most suitable programs.slackercampguide.gif You'll find preschool and toddler programs, specialty one-week day camps, country day camps, sleep-away camps and even some of the services and resources to help make finding and getting ready for camp easier.

In addition, we think you'll find lots of great resources listed by our sponsors. The camp listings at the bottom of this page will give you more in depth information about each of our sponsor camps or services.

Check out our Slacker Mom Camp Guide for last minute camp openings.

Finding the Right Camp

The good news is there are hundreds of great camps to choose from. The bad news is...that there are hundreds of great camps to choose from. How on earth do you pick the right one for your child. The Mommy Poppins Camp Guide is here to help. Not only will you find write-ups of some camps that we think are particularly noteworthy, but we've got expert advice from people that have been in the business long enough to remember when going to camp meant roughing it. Plus all the resources you need to find out more information about camps online.

Specialty Camps

No matter what your kid is into, or thinks she is into this week, it seems like there's a specialty camp out there. Many are one week programs that make it easy to line up a summer of dabbling and stay flexible around your family vacation. Others let kids immerse themselves in their theme for longer periods. Either way, we've been astounded at some of the really cool camps there are out there and picked out some of the most interesting ones.
